Driven by the vision “to create a new infrastructure that enables the next generation to understand our Earth and achieve a resilient future,” Synspective tackles social challenges by developing small SAR satellite constellations and providing satellite data solutions. We sat down with Yukio Endo, a manager in the InSAR Analytics Team, to learn about his work life at Synspective.

What Led to Synspective: A Chance Encounter at a Seminar

Interviewer (PR): Mr. Endo, thank you for being here today. Since joining Synspective, you’ve had many experiences, but could you start by telling us how you first encountered the company?

Yukio: My meeting with Synspective was really by chance. It started with my participation in a seminar Synspective hosted when I was a graduate student. At the time, I was researching how to utilize satellite image analysis, including SAR, for disaster response.  I started to ask myself whether I should continue with research or find a job where I could apply my studies.

At the seminar, I heard Synspective staff passionately talk about the potential to contribute to society by utilizing their unique SAR satellite data for disaster risk reduction and infrastructure monitoring. I wanted to learn more about it. I felt a great sense of importance in solving social issues using data collected from space. I also recognized the business’s potential because Synspective was not just developing and operating SAR satellites but also working on SAR data analysis and solution development.

In addition to the business side, I had the opportunity to meet many Synspective employees before the selection process, including our CEO Motoyuki Arai, which was another reason I decided to join Synspective.

On the Forefront of Solution Development: The Role of the InSAR Analytics Team

Interviewer (PR): You’re now the manager of the InSAR Analytics Team. What kind of work do you do?

Yukio: My team is responsible for developing “Land Displacement Monitoring (LDM),” a ground deformation analysis solution. We use SAR images and other satellite data to understand ground subsidence and deformation. Our primary responsibilities include algorithm development, maintenance, and operation. I was promoted to manager in my fourth year, and since then, rather than development, I’ve been focusing on mid- to long-term solution development planning to ensure business scalability. I’m also part of the “Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Subsidy Project” that we recently announced. As a part of that initiative, I often collaborate with our partners to define global project policies.

Working with my five team members to improve the product is rewarding. It’s also gratifying to hear customer feedback and to feel that our work contributes to society. I’ve been involved with LDM since its inception, and I’m motivated by the increasing number of companies using it as we improve it little by little.

Interviewer (PR): With Synspective’s global members, did you find it challenging to communicate in English?

Yukio: I studied abroad for a year, making me less resistant to communicating in English. As I actively communicated with people around me, regardless of their nationality, my English skills in management improved as well. Synspective has a learning support system that supports English language learning, so even those not confident in their English can improve while working.

Interviewer (PR): I’d also like to ask about Synspective’s work style. Do you often work from the office?

Yukio: The team generally works from the office. However, at Synspective, you can work remotely as needed. It depends on the team’s policy, but many teams now recommend working in the office.

Who Fits Synspective: The Importance of Asking Questions and a Desire to Learn

Interviewer (PR): What kind of people do you think are a good fit for Synspective?

Yukio: I think Synspective is best suited for people who can ask many questions and desire to learn.

  • Ability to ask questions: Synspective values each employee’s thinking and ability to act autonomously. Therefore, asking questions when you don’t understand something is essential to deepening your understanding.
  • Willingness to learn: The satellite business is a rapidly changing industry where new technologies and knowledge are constantly being developed. People who are always willing to learn can be successful at Synspective.

Interviewer (PR): Finally, do you have any message for those interested in Synspective?

Yukio: Synspective is a very rewarding workplace that uses data obtained from space and cutting-edge analysis technology to tackle social challenges. There are many opportunities for professional development and growth.

Interviewer (PR): Thank you for your valuable insights today, Mr. Endo!
