Seeking a Client-Facing Role: Suyi Finds Her Fit at Synspective
Interviewer (PR): Tell us about yourself and why you joined Synspective.
Suyi: Before joining Synspective, I worked as a ground station engineer, conducted research in remote sensing, and developed GIS applications. These roles were more technical and backend-oriented, but through them, I discovered that I was effective at bridging the gap between technical teams and clients, and I enjoyed doing it. I wanted to move into a more client-focused role where I could have a direct impact by engaging with customers to understand their needs firsthand and help create meaningful solutions. During the search, I learned about the opportunity at Synspective through my current manager, Elizabeth, with whom I had collaborated at our previous workplace. When this position opened up, she believed my experience and skills were an ideal match, and I was excited to join the team.
Interviewer (PR): Can you describe your role as a Customer Success Engineer?
Suyi: My role is to ensure that our clients achieve success with our products. This means not just completing projects on time but also ensuring client satisfaction. I achieve this by gathering feedback from clients, identifying areas for improvement, and collaborating with our internal teams to develop truly innovative and valuable solutions. Our goal is to ensure that clients appreciate our solutions and enjoy working with us.
What I enjoy most is the diversity each project offers, as they originate from around the world and span different industries. This requires me to work closely with our clients, our solutions team in Singapore, and the engineering team in Japan to explore ideas and keep projects on track and successful. I also allocate time for self-study to stay informed about industry trends and new technologies. Additionally, my role involves traveling to meet clients and attending international events.
Global Collaboration: How the Singapore Office Connects with Other Synspective Teams
Interviewer (PR): Speaking of Japan, can you tell us more about how the Singapore office collaborates with other Synspective teams globally?
Suyi: Collaboration is important for our success. We work very closely with the teams in Japan, capitalising on their expertise in scientific research and platform development. We have regular calls to ensure everyone’s on the same page. I serve as the liaison, facilitating any information exchange between the clients and my colleagues in Japan. It’s a truly global team effort, united in working together toward a common goal.
Interviewer (PR): What’s the culture like at Synspective’s Singapore office?
Suyi: It’s a great place to work! The atmosphere is enjoyable, everyone is very friendly and I felt very welcomed from the start. Our team is small, so we’re tightly knit, and each person contributes their own unique expertise. We come from diverse backgrounds, which enriches our interactions and drives innovation. There’s a strong emphasis on knowledge sharing and collaboration.

Role Challenges: Overcoming the Breadth of Knowledge Required
Interviewer (PR): What challenges do you face in your role, and how do you overcome them?
Suyi: A significant challenge is the wide range of knowledge needed. Our clients come from various industries, so being a generalist and having the curiosity and hunger to learn is important. Reading articles and research papers is a great way to expand my knowledge, and learning from my colleagues, who have extensive expertise, has also been incredibly beneficial.
Interviewer (PR): What kind of person thrives at Synspective? What qualities are you looking for in new team members?
Suyi: It is very important to be curious. We seek individuals who are genuinely interested in the world and eager to understand our client’s challenges. A strong desire to learn, a collaborative spirit, and excellent communication skills are also essential.
Interviewer (PR): Is there any opportunity for professional development at Synspective?
Suyi: Absolutely! At Synspective, there are lots of opportunities for professional growth. The projects here provide opportunities to enhance your technical skills, improve client interaction capabilities, and develop project management expertise. Every year, staff are also encouraged to enroll in courses they are interested in. Moreover, our company culture of collaboration and willingness to share knowledge provides plenty of chances to gain insights across different departments.
Interviewer (PR): If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering a career at Synspective, what would it be?
Suyi: If you’re looking for a challenging and fulfilling career and wish to be part of a team that’s making a positive impact on the world, then Synspective is the place for you. Be prepared to learn, stay open to new experiences, and embrace the constantly evolving landscape of the space and remote sensing industry.
